Nee vehicles are beingprovided for the use of inemberso£ the Force
in the CriminalInvestigationDepartmentand in orderto ensure that these
vehicles are properlyoleaned,serviced and generallyoiaintainedin satisfactory
condition,the following instructlonswi11 be carried out by a11 concerned.
GENERALRESPON3IBILTTIES
The responsibilityfor cleanliness,poriodical serv3cing,oi1
changing,notificationof defects and repairerequiredfor thesevehiclesis
placedon the SeniorC.2:D.Offlcerat the plaie wherethe C.I.D. vehlclesar e
baaed. This Sar o C.I.D.Officeris directlyresponsibleto the Chief
Constablefor a11 thesemetters. 2t wi11 alsob e his dutyto see that the
PoliceGarage where the vehlcleis stationedis kept in a c1ean and tidy condition.
OFFICERRESPONSIBLEFOR VEHICLERECORDS.
The SeniorC.I.D. Officer1n eachDivisionwi11 appoint aa Officer
o£ the C.I.D.Staffto be responsiblefor the Log Bookaand otherrecordsrequired
to be kept in respecto£ C.I.D.vehicles. Each Officerwho uaes on e of these
vehicles wi11 himselfwrite in the Log Book the necessaryrecordof his use of the
vehicle ail he wi17.,after suchuse, report to his SeniorC.I.D.Officer any
deîectswhich ray have developed or damagewhichmay have been caused to the
vehicle. .
When a vehiclehas been used it must be left in a c1ean and roadworthy
condition.
CLEA1LINES3 ANDGENERALMf I TEN NCE.
Beforea vehioleis takenout for use on the road, the C.I.D.Ofi cer
who is to drive the vehiclewi11 checkthe oi1 level in the engineaid the water
level in the radiatorand wi11 add eny quantitiesof oi1 or water required. Tyre
preasureswi11 alsob e checked.
Once per week at leastthe SeniorC.I.D.Officerwhere the vehicl.eis
basedwi11 arrangefor the vehicleto b a thoroughlywashed and cleaned, attention
baingpaid not only to the visible bodyworkbut to underneaththe inudwioge,behind
tha wheela,the frontaxle and steeringjolnte. The lnsideof the oar wi11 be
brushed out and the windowsolean ed ina1deand out. The ty eewi11 be inspected
for wear, stoneeor artyforeignbodiespicked out, tyre pressurescheckedand
adjueted. Batterieswi11 be inspected and toppedup with distilledwater,the
terminalsbeingchecked for tightnessan d kept frae £r om corrosionand we11
greased.
PURPOsESFOR WHICHA VE[i2CLECAN BE USED.
C.I.D. vehicles ere issuedfor use by C.I.D.personae1 for official
purposes on1y whlch does not include personal conveniencesuchaa goingbackwerde
and forwardsfor maals. W hen it is necessaryfor a C.I.D.vehicle to be used
£or a speoialpurposethe permissionof the ChiafConstablew111 be obtained.
RELIEF VEEiICLES
W hen it is foundnecessaryto obtainthe use o£ a reliefvehicle
from the Motor PatrolDepartmentat Crewewhilsta C.I.D.vehicle is qff the

road it will ba the duty of the Inspectorof that Departmentto aee that
such reliefvehicleis iesuedfromCrewe in a cleaaand roadworthyconditi.on.
It wi11 then be the dutyof the SeniorC.I.D.Officerto eneurethat the
reliefvehicleis cleaned,maintainedand used in the eameway as if it
were the C.I.D.vehicleand that it is returnedto Crewe in a clean and
roadworthycondition.

basedwi11 add a Certificateon Form M.P.3,belowthe Driver' reporbeaoh
