PC Wroe of Number 2 Division was on the 28th instant was dismissed from the force for 1st apprehending and afterwards liberating John Kelsall of Sale and receiving 2/- which he appropriated to his own use and neglected to report the apprehension of Kelsall. 2nd Drunk on duty.
PC's Nicholson and Francis of Number 2 Division will receive the extra Special Duty Allowance of 5/- for capture of Fowl stealers during night duty.

PC Casson of Number 6 Division is promoted to Merit Class Constable with extra pay at 2d per diem for Long and Meritorious Service and recent good captures.

PC Joseph Elliott of Number 10 Division is dismissed from the force for being absent without leave from the 14th to the 19th instant and making a false statement when called upon for an explanation.

In issuing the following list of promotions to date from the 26th ultimo the Chief Constable directs that it may be explained to the men of each Division that he is quite determined that any man convicted of drunkenness shall be passed over in promotion during a period of 6 months in addition to other consequences, also that six months service of probation must in future occur between each step unless specially recommended for exemplary conduct

The pay of Superintendents Aston and Mayho is increased to £130 per annum each from the 26th ultimo.
PC Billington of Number 1 Division is promoted to the rank of Acting Sergeant and is awarded the extra Special Duty Allowance of 5/- for the capture of a prisoner on night duty after a determined resistance.

A Ticket of Leave Man named John Blythe having obtained from the Excise on irregular Certificate a Hawkins License and with which he is now Hawking the County, residing at Bishops Fields, Chester with directions to report himself at this office on the first Monday of each month. Superintendents will direct their men to keep a good look out quietly on the movements of this man, being careful not to interfere in any way with his carrying on his trade, or to inform any one of his antecedents. A photo and description of Blythe is herewith enclosed which will be sent from Number 1 Division consecutively to Number 10 Division Superintendent Aston returning same to this office.

The pay of Inspector Saxton Number 6 Division is increased to £100 per annum.
The Chief Constable reminds the Cheshire Constabulary that promotion is reached only in this County by efficiency and good conduct and does not depend upon length of service alone as elsewhere and he hopes before long to issue another list of promotions based on these qualifications.

Acting Inspector Wood is reduced from that rank to Sergeant and will be removed to Number 10 Division to be stationed at Stockton Heath. Acting Inspector Buckley will be transferred to Number 4 Division and be stationed at and take charge of Crewe Section under Superintendent Saxton and Sergeant Morris will be transferred to Runcorn with the rank of Acting Inspector under Superintendent Aston to take effect on the 19th instant.

Licensing Act 1872
Superintendents will at once carry out the provisions of the above act a copy sent per book post, by informing all Licensed persons the hours their houses must be closed Section 24.
Persons summoned for Drunkenness or being drunk and riotous will be proceeded against under this act and Superintendents will always apply for a moiety of any penalty imposed for those offences or for any offence under the act in which the police are the informers and credit same to the Superannuation Fund under Section 66.
Inspectors of Weights and Measures will see that all measures are marked as provided for in Section 8.
The power to apprehend persons guilty of offences under Section 12 will be used with discretion, a summons, when the offenders and their residences are known, being sufficient, except when in charge of Steam Engines or in possession of loaded Firearms.
Superintendents will see that the Placard to be affixed to the premises of any Licensed person convicted under Section 19 is placed in a conspicuous place so as to be seen by all persons entering such premises, for which they will receive the authority of the Chief Constable as provided in Section 74, this authority will also enable them to act under Section 22.
In the event of any objection being made by the police to the renewal of a Licence, Superintendents will take care that the notice in writing required by Section 42 is served on the holder seven clear days before the commencement of the annual Licensing Meeting.
